Participant reviews
Margaret Lim
Accountant, 53 β Bedok
"I took the household finance course after we had a difficult conversation with my husband about what we were actually spending. The workbook is genuinely useful β not padded, just the templates and explanations you need. The MediShield section answered questions I had been carrying around for three years."

Rajesh Krishnamurthy
Engineer, 48 β Tampines
"David's explanation of duration risk was the clearest I have encountered β and I had tried to learn this twice before from books that assumed I already understood things I did not. The data portal access is useful during the course, though I would have liked to keep it afterward. Overall, worth the time and cost."
Bond & Fixed Income Β· February 2025
Chen Wei Lin
Teacher, 56 β Ang Mo Kio
"Weiwen walked through the CPF LIFE election decision in a way that finally made sense to me. I am retiring in four years and the checklist we built during the course is now the document I return to whenever I need to think something through. I recommended this course to two colleagues immediately after finishing."
Retirement Withdrawal Β· March 2025
Ahmad Yusof
Business owner, 44 β Jurong West
"Running a business means personal and household finances tend to get mixed together in unhealthy ways. The course helped me separate them properly, and the emergency reserve section was particularly timely. Small group format made it possible to ask about my specific situation without it feeling intrusive."
Practical Money Management Β· January 2025
Sujatha Pillai
HR Manager, 51 β Queenstown
"I had attended two other retirement planning seminars before this one. The difference is that here, the instructor is not selling anything. Weiwen's answers to questions were direct and careful in equal measure. The session on SRS drawdown sequencing was genuinely new information for me."

Koh Hui Fen
Civil servant, 47 β Bishan
"I took the bond course because I kept reading about SSBs and SGS without really understanding what differentiated them. Six weeks later I have a framework I can apply. I particularly appreciated that David addressed questions about corporate bond risk without pretending there are simple answers β which there are not."

Participant journeys
How the courses fit into real situations
Getting household finances in order before a family change
The situation
A couple in their late forties were preparing for one spouse to reduce working hours to care for an ageing parent. They needed to understand how this would affect their household cash flow, their CPF contributions, and their healthcare coverage arrangements.
What they did
They enrolled together in the household finance course. Using the family-budget templates in the workbook, they worked through projected scenarios for reduced income. The MediShield and CareShield sections directly addressed the coverage questions for both the parent and themselves.
The outcome
By the end of the course they had a household budget model for the transition period, an emergency reserve figure they both agreed on, and a clear picture of what their healthcare costs were likely to look like. Both felt the decision was better grounded after the course than before.
Understanding what was already held β and whether it made sense
The situation
A 52-year-old who had been putting money into bond funds through an advisory relationship for several years found that he did not actually understand what he owned β specifically, why some funds had lost value when interest rates rose.
What he did
He enrolled in the bond and fixed income course. Sessions on duration and interest rate sensitivity directly addressed his confusion. The course did not recommend any changes to his portfolio β that was not its purpose β but gave him the language and concepts to evaluate what he held himself.
The outcome
He left with a clear understanding of duration risk and a framework for evaluating whether a bond fund's characteristics matched his income objectives. He felt considerably more able to ask useful questions of his adviser than he had before the course.
Planning a retirement transition that had been deferred too long
The situation
A 57-year-old had been meaning to think seriously about retirement for several years but had not done so in any structured way. She had CPF savings, an SRS account, and some personal investments but no clear picture of how to sequence withdrawals or time her CPF LIFE election.
What she did
She enrolled in the retirement withdrawal course. The sessions on CPF LIFE plan comparison and SRS drawdown sequencing were particularly relevant. Under instructor guidance, she prepared a personal pre-retirement checklist that covered her specific account structure.
The outcome
She emerged with a clear sense of the decisions she needed to make and in what order. The checklist became a working document. She noted that the course had changed her from someone who found retirement planning overwhelming to someone who found it manageable.
